Travel Tips
Comfortable Shoes
The best way to travel once you get to downtown Eureka Springs is by foot. Comfy walking shoes are a must! Lots of ups and downs through our hilly streets and you'll quickly see what we mean.

Comfortable shoes
are a must!
One of the most predominant forms of footwear by the locals is most definitely hiking boots or walking shoes.
Weather or not
We have a saying in Arkansas, "If you don't like the weather stick around for a while. It changes every 15 minutes or so."
That is an exaggeration of course, but we do experience some dramatic changes sometimes.
Spring can range from chilly to hot, bone dry to monsoon! But all in all spring is a very pleasant time to visit Eureka Springs. Since we are talking about rain a word of caution relating to your shoes again. Our sidewalks are extremely slick when wet so exercise caution!

Ahhhh, summer. Eureka Springs is in full swing when summer rolls around. Being Arkansas the summers can get pretty warm, sometimes just down right hot! Humidity comes to mind as well as your body. Shorts are highly suggested as well as light weight shirts or blouses. Sun screening hats and sun glasses are wise accessories.
Late summer the heat can become extreme and the experienced Eureka visitor knows to replenish those fluids! Many even carry their own canteens! Don't fret, forgot your portable water container? Many shops sell bottled water as well as sodas to quench a thirsty street hiker.
Fall, arguably the best time to visit. The summer is winding down, a little more laid back pace fills the air, and color, everywhere! The Ozarks are famous for their brilliantly colorful Autumns.

Autumn in the Ozarks
can range from hot to cold
The days can still be quite warm even in late October and the evenings can range from brisk to just plain cold. So if you are planning a fall visit bring some summer clothes but don't forget to pack a sweater or light jacket.
Winter brings a whole other world to our little town. Life slows down, the leaves are all gone revealing things in the hills hidden by the summer foliage. The locals take time to reflect on the season just passed and prepare for the long slumber ahead.
Like some of the most peaceful and serene feelings you can get from nature? Then winter is the time for you. These hills take on a strangely beautiful appearance that only a few really get to enjoy.
The Ozark winter can be a mild time of slumber for Mother Nature or an amazing Winter wonderland. Imagine Christmas day outside in a short sleeved shirt. Then two days later you need your parka and snow boots. Either way I wouldn't trade my life here for any place else on Earth.
Well except for maybe Confederate notes
A variety of payment options
abound in Eureka Springs
As anywhere cash is always welcomed. All standard credit cards, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa as well as others are accepted.
There are several choices for banking in town, many having ATM's right downtown and uptown in the major visitor areas.
Fido and Spot are welcome too
Eurekans are pet lovers and it shows! Of course you can't take your animal friend into any restaurant, but Eureka Springs offers options for the pet on vacation. There are shops here catering to just your pet, some lodging accommodations allow pets in their rooms, and even shops in town that don't mind visitors from the animal kingdom sniffing around their wares.
Well behaved pets are welcome
at many locations in town
There's been a few local pets that pretty much get their way with the run of the town, browsing in and out of shops at their leisure. The Crescent Hotel has immortalized their beloved Morris in the hotel's lobby.
You never know, you and your beloved critter might just end up in the center photo spread of our local paper that quite often features pets, oh yeah even the owners sometimes too!
